Each year,
the Rotary Club of Ulverstone provides support to community projects,
not only in our own community , but in communities around the world -
either directly or indirectly.

The Rotary
"Shelter Box" programme was the brainchild of a small club in the UK.
They conceived the idea of the emergency provision of providing
emergency shelter to people who suffer as a result of disasters around
the world. These Shelter Boxes contain shelter and immediate sustenance
for up to 10 people and can be moved into areas affected at very
short notice. The Rotary Club of Ulverstone and its members have been
supporters of this programme.

This support
includes the Fred Hollows
Foundation, which provides sight by the removal of cataracts and by
implanting intraocular
lenses to people in poorer nations (the Foundation has also
set up small factories in some of these countries to manufacture the
lenses required for their programme); direct support to children's
education in developing countries; prizes and scholarships to local
students; support to local business awards and many other projects deserving
of encouragement and support.

More to come
....................... |
Through
Rotary International, the dreadful disease of Polio has almost been
wiped out. By the organised provision of vaccine around the world,
Rotary's "PolioPlus" programme aimed at the eradication of Polio is
almost complete with just a few isolated cases now reported from Africa.
In our own small way, the Rotary Club of Ulverstone has been a
contributor to this project.
